This week’s episode focused a lot on Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, who was accurately described as the team’s most important player this season. Cincinnati played a mock game and also its first preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. Before the game, Bengal players and coaches were telling each other this was the start of something special. But the exhibition turned out to be a 17-7 win for the Saints. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis wasn’t happy afterwards about the team’s second-half performance.
This is the first episode to HBO’s Hard Knocks Season 5 featuring the Cincinatti Bengals.
After a 4-11-1 season that Bengals owner Mike Brown deemed “an embarrassment,” the team is trying to fight back from the bottom to the top of the NFL. The series starts with the Olympics-style competition that the team held during minicamp, which displayed an attempt to build unity and a willingness to compete. Once arriving in Georgetown, Ky., the Oklahoma drill serves as an early highlight. The injury bug also strikes the tight end position, where starter Reggie Kelly (Achilles) is lost for the season and Ben Utecht suffers a severe concussion.

Thursday night during the Eagles/Patriots preseason game, there was bigger news than the return of the Golden Child Tom Brady. Michael Vick has ended his 2 year hiatus from the league after incarceration and being conditionally reinstated to the league by Roger Goodell, to sign a one year contract worth $1.6 Million and a second year team option for $5.2 Million. What this means is, the Eagles can choose whether they would like to keep him next year for $5.2 or if they want to trade/release him to free agency. This move comes as a shock to many, because up until the news broke there was no inclination that the Eagles were even interested. Some say the Eagles became very interested afte their back up Kevin Kolb got injured on monday night, others say the Eagles inquired last week about how they could make Vick a part of their team.
With this signing there is going to become an onslaught of disapproval and more then likely protests the minute Vick steps on the field. PETA has already issued a statement about the signing of Vick:
“PETA and millions of decent football fans around the world are disappointed that the Philadelphia Eagles have chosen to sign a man who hanged dogs from trees, electrocuted them with jumper cables, held them underwater until they drowned in his swimming pool, and even threw his own family dogs into the fighting pit to be torn to shreds while he laughed. What sort of message does this send to young fans who care about animals and don’t want to see them be harmed?
PETA certainly hopes that Vick has learned his lesson and feels truly remorseful for his crimes—but since he’s given no public indication that that’s the case, only time will tell. At this point, all Eagles fans can do is cross their fingers and hope that they won’t ever have to explain to their sons and daughters what a “rape rack” is and why their favorite player was using one, as Falcons fans once had to.”
Does anyone agree with what PETA has to say? It is to be expected this is going to be the route they are goign to continue to take on Michael Vick, but did they expect the man to never do anythign with his life ever again? I do not condone what he did, but I do believe the man has paid enough for his actions. I am personally excited to see Michael Vick get back on the field, and I am very interested to see how Vick and Mcnabb coexhist in Philly.
This past week in sports we have seen the resurrection of arguably the greatest golfer in the history of the sport. Fresh off of missing the cut at the British Open, only his second time missing the cut at a major in his career, Tiger has won the last two tournaments he has entered. Kicking off a stretch of 3 straight events on the PGA Tour, Tiger dominated the Buick Open and this past Sunday came from behind to win the Bridgestone Invitational for the 7th time. This upcoming week Tiger will be going for his first Major of the year at the PGA Championship. Tiger would more than likely trade in all of his 5 wins from this year to win this one Major, so you can expect Tiger will be playing as hard as he possibly can. Continue reading for more…
